Unjunked Dark Chocolate Avocado Truffles (Unjunked Holiday Treat - Day 4 of 12)

Day 4: Unjunked Dark Chocolate Avocado Truffles

If you’ve ever wanted a holiday dessert that feels indulgent without leaving you feeling heavy, wired, or crashing an hour later, this one is for you.

These Dark Chocolate Avocado Truffles are rich, smooth, and deeply chocolatey. They taste like something you’d buy from a fancy chocolate shop… but they’re made with just a few real ingredients and zero refined junk.

This is Day 4 of my 12 Days of Unjunked Holiday Treats, where I’m sharing healthier versions of classic holiday desserts that still feel cozy, special, and satisfying.

And yes, there’s avocado in these.
No, you won’t taste it. 🙂

Why These Truffles Work (Even for Skeptics)

Avocado might sound like a strange addition to dessert, but it’s actually the secret to the creamy, melt-in-your-mouth texture of these truffles.

Here’s why this recipe is a favorite:

  • Naturally creamy without heavy cream or butter

  • Made with real dark chocolate instead of chocolate-flavored coatings

  • No baking required, perfect for busy December days

  • Lower sugar than traditional truffles

  • Satisfying, so a little goes a long way

These are the kind of treats that help you feel content after dessert, not hunting for something else.

Unjunked Dark Chocolate Avocado Truffles Recipe

Ingredients

  • ⅔ cup mashed avocado (about 1 large ripe avocado)

  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips (about 6 oz, 70% or higher if possible)

  • 1 pinch sea salt

For rolling (optional):

  • Cocoa powder

  • Chopped coconut

Instructions

  1. Add the avocado and sea salt to a food processor and blend until completely smooth.

  2. Melt the dark chocolate chips in the microwave or using a double boiler.

  3. Pour the melted chocolate into the food processor with the avocado.

  4. Process again until fully combined, smooth, and glossy.

  5. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes, until firm enough to scoop.

  6. Scoop and roll into small balls, then roll in cocoa powder or chopped coconut if desired.

  7. Store in the fridge until ready to serve.

Make Them Your Own

These truffles are easy to customize depending on what you love:

  • Roll in cocoa powder for a classic truffle feel

  • Use shredded coconut for a festive touch

  • Add a pinch of espresso powder to deepen the chocolate flavor

  • Sprinkle with sea salt for a sweet-salty finish

A Healthier Holiday Treat That Still Feels Special

One of the biggest goals of unjunking holiday treats isn’t perfection, it’s creating desserts that still feel like a treat, without the side effects that usually come with them.

These truffles are rich, satisfying, and made with ingredients your body actually recognizes. They’re perfect for holiday platters, gifting, or keeping in the fridge for when a chocolate craving hits.
